What to do if a marker in a new 36 pack does not write

by Crafter 20. January 2010 12:10

Q. Bought a package of BIC Mark It 36 this week. AT least one of the pens does not write (I haven't used them all yet), so now I am concerned how long they will be usable. What is the best way to store them to make them last the longest?

A. Thank you for your question and interest in BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers. The best way to store BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers is with the cap on. In regards to your comment on one of the markers being dried up, please contact BIC’s Consumer Affairs Department. The Science of BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers

by Crafter 20. January 2010 11:53

Q. I am doing a science fair project for school on how permanent a permanent marker is. I would like any information on the topic of removing permanent markers, and of any studies on the actual life span of the ink on household surfaces. I have scanned the internet for research on the subjects, and have not been successful. My teacher requires me to find research other than my own, and any help would save my grade. Thank you for your time, I hope to hear from you shortly.

A. Thank you for your question and interest in BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers. BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers are permanent on just about everything including: glass, metal, plastics, photos, foils, coated papers, oily, and damp surfaces. The permanent markers are also contain acid-free ink, which means there is no added acid or measurable pH. In terms of removing permanent markers, we recommend that you use hot, soapy water to remove the mark. If that does not work, you can also try rubbing alcohol.

Q. I am doing a science project on permanent markers and need to know when the first BIC Permanent Marker was made? I am going to be testing 6 different permanent markers with vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water and varsol on different fabrics, paper and plastic to see if they really are permanent and I just needed to know how old the BIC permanent markers have been around.

A. Thank you for your question and interest in BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers. BIC has been producing and selling permanent markers since 2002 when the Grip Permanent marker was launched. A year later, BIC launched the BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Markers. In 2005, BIC launched the first 12 colors in the BIC Mark-It™ Color Collection. Earthly Expressions, and Retractable were all launched in 2007.

Cap Off Time

Q. After writing just a few words with a new "mark it", I left the cap off over night. Is there anyway to get the ink to flow again?

A. Thank you for your question. The best way to try to get the ink to flow again is to recap the marker for at least 24 hours before attempting to write with the BIC Mark-It™ Permanent Marker.
